The Texas Hill Country is a geographic region of Central and South Texas, forming the southeast part of the Edwards Plateau. Given its location, climate, terrain, and vegetation, the Hill Country can be considered the border between the American South and Southwest . [ 1 ]
With the bypassing of Corn Hill, a new town called Jarrell was built nearby Corn Hill along the site of the proposed Bartlett Western Railroad. Over the next two decades residents of Corn Hill moved to their homes to Jarrell and by 1973 the only building left standing in Corn Hill was a hotel. [ 3 ]
Hill County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 35,874. [1] Its county seat is Hillsboro. [2] The county is named for George Washington Hill, secretary of war and secretary of the navy under the Republic of Texas. Hill County is part of Central Texas, though not included in the Texas Hill Country.
The Texas Hill Country Trail is a non-profit organization which promotes heritage tourism, economic development, and historic preservation. It is one of ten regions which make up the Texas Heritage Trails Program of the Texas Historical Commission .
