Andrew Newell Wyeth (/ ˈ w aɪ ɛ θ / WY-eth; July 12, 1917 – January 16, 2009) was an American visual artist, primarily a realist painter, working predominantly in a regionalist style.

Wyeth believed in the ability of ordinary things to carry symbolism, "profound meaning," and rich emotion. [5] The same is true for Wind from the Sea. Comparing the rigid window frame to Christina's resiliency, the decaying curtains to her disability, and the crocheted birds to her delicate and surviving femininity, Wyeth considered the painting to be a symbolic portrait of her.
Wyeth had already given a few Helga paintings to friends, including the famous Lovers, which had been given as a gift to Wyeth's wife. [14] [15] The works were exhibited at the National Gallery of Art in 1987 and in a nationwide tour. [16] There was extensive criticism of both the 1987 exhibition and the subsequent tour. [15]
Trodden Weed is a 1951 painting by the American artist Andrew Wyeth. It is a self-portrait, displaying the painter from his knees down, dressed in a pair of old, high leather boots. The boots had belonged to N. C. Wyeth's teacher Howard Pyle. [1] Andrew Wyeth had received the boots as a Christmas gift from his wife in 1950.
