The Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58, is a piano sonata in four movements composed by Polish composer Frédéric Chopin; it is the second of the composer's three mature sonatas(the others being the Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35, and the Sonata for Piano and Cello in G minor, Op. 65).
The last opus number Chopin used was 65, that allocated to the Cello Sonata in G minor. He expressed a death-bed wish that all his unpublished manuscripts be destroyed. The soprano and composer Pauline Viardot was a close friend of Chopin and his lover George Sand, and she made a number of arrangements of his mazurkas as songs, with his full agreement. He gave Viardot expert advice on these arrangements, as well as on her piano playing and her other vocal compositions.
