Those two books taught me more about colored pencils than most anything else, as for composition, design, and other related topics the old books in other mediums have all that covered better than anything that is colored pencil specific.

We put a wet-on-wet, very light wash of b.s. and prussian blue, mixing on paper. We did some spatter of paint and water. After it was completely dry (blow dryer), we drew in the first tree shape. We wet around the OUTSIDE of the tree with water and dropped in more b.s. and p.b. – again mixing on paper.
The Jacksons Artica run one size smaller than the American brushes, and probably correspond to the Escoda perla. A #10 (as suggested by Zbukvic) is a good size for outdoor work. A Small squirrel mop (8 or 9mm dia; like Jacksons #9 or 10, they run about 1-2mm smaller than specified) is also helpful for A5 or A4 size.
Bill – I think that why I feel the a begginer should also look at magazines like Artist Magazine or try some of the great books that are out there. Another thing, many people’s painting problems are realing problems with their initial drawing so don’t forget to look at drawing books. Of course, there is lots of good information on Wet Canvas.
