As Aurora grew, the Fox River caused a separation between the two halves of the city, leading to animosity between them. The Art Deco building was originally a hospital and functioned as a nursing home and sanatorium until approximately April 2010, when the property was vacated. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 7, 2010.
