The Honda Civic GX first appeared in 1998 as a factory-modified Civic LX that had been designed to run exclusively on CNG (compressed natural gas). In 1998 the Civic GX cost $4500 more than a comparable Civic LX. [10] The car looked and drove just like a contemporary Honda Civic LX, but did not run on gasoline.
Compressed natural gas (CNG) is a fuel gas mainly composed of methane (CH 4), compressed to less than 1% of the volume it occupies at standard atmospheric pressure. It is stored and distributed in hard containers at a pressure of 20–25 megapascals (2,900–3,600 psi; 200–250 atm), usually in cylindrical or spherical shapes.

[73] Buses powered with CNG are common in the United States.
The Hyundai Aura CNG has a 1.2-liter petrol engine that can run on both petrol and CNG. The engine is BS6 compliant and produces a maximum power of 68 horsepower at 6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 95Nm at 4,000rpm. [4] The facelift Aura was launched on 23 January 2023 in India, featuring a redesigned front fascia. [5]
CNG vehicles can use both renewable CNG and non-renewable CNG. [60] Conventional CNG is a fossil fuel. New technologies such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to economically access unconventional gas resources, appear to have increased the supply of natural gas in a fundamental way. [61]
