Sharpsburg is located in eastern Coweta County at (33.339337, -84.650155 The town of Turin is immediately to the southeast. Georgia State Route 16 runs through the southern part of Sharpsburg, leading west 10 miles (16 km) to Newnan, the county seat, and southeast 7 miles (11 km) to Senoia.
Sharpesburg Township was named for William Sharpe (1742–1818), who lived in the area. Historic sites within Sharpesburg Township include the Damascus Baptist Church, built in 1855 and the Snow Creek Methodist Church and Burying Ground, built in 1884–1885.
On the night of May 8, 2024, an EF-1 tornado hit Peachtree, as part of the Tornado outbreak of May 6–9, 2024. [21] One home was destroyed and seven suffered major damage. [22] This is the most recent confirmed tornado in Cherokee County, the previous being around 2018. A tornado was said to have also hit Peachtree on March 3, 2023.
