The maximum sustainable yield is usually higher than the optimum sustainable yield and maximum economic yield. MSY is extensively used for fisheries management . Unlike the logistic ( Schaefer ) model, [ 1 ] MSY has been refined in most modern fisheries models and occurs at around 30% of the unexploited population size.
The Gordon-Schaefer model is a bioeconomic model applied in the fishing industry. It may be used to compute the maximum sustainable yield. It takes account of biological growth rates, carrying capacity, and total and marginal costs and revenues.
The amount that is available to be harvested is controlled by the benchmarks MSY and OY. MSY is the maximum sustainable yield and OY is the optimum yield of a stock. The main difference between MSY and OY is that MSY considers only the biology of the fish while the OY considers the economic aspect of the harvest.
Maximum sustainable yield (MSY) – the maximum catch that can be taken from a species' stock over an indefinite period. Under the assumption of logistic growth, the MSY will be exactly at half the carrying capacity of a species, as this is the stage at when population growth is highest.
The Castle of Mey, located in Caithness, on the north coast of Scotland, is about a four-hour drive from Balmoral. It was long the seat of the Earls of Caithness, before it was the privately owned ...
Pollard’s family called police at about 1 a.m. Tuesday to say she had not been seen since going out at about 5 p.m. Monday to search for Pepper, her cat.
The picture about msy is mainly from a conversationists point of view. Most of the examples are about fish that were fished above their maximum sustainable yield. Lower yields then the MSY due to increased fishery pressure are also possible, which does not mean that these yields are not sustainable. This is the case with most established fisheries.
