Aneesur Rahman (24 August 1927 – 6 June 1987 [1]) was an Indian-born American physicist who pioneered the application of computational methods to physical systems. His 1964 paper [2] on liquid argon studied a system of 864 argon atoms on a CDC 3600 computer, using a Lennard-Jones potential.
Built the first functional program-controlled computer, the Z3 in 1941. [59] The Z3 already used what later became known as Reverse Polish Notation, and it was proven to be Turing-complete in 1998. Produced the world's first commercial computer, the Z4. Designed the first high-level programming language, Plankalkül.
A few of these people pre-date the invention of the digital computer; they are now regarded as computer scientists because their work can be seen as leading to the invention of the computer. Others are mathematicians whose work falls within what would now be called theoretical computer science, such as complexity theory and algorithmic ...
1963 – Edward Lorenz discovers the butterfly effect on a computer, attracting interest in chaos theory. [54] 1961 – Using computational investigations of the 3-body problem, Michael Minovitch formulates the gravity assist method. [55] [56] 1964 – Molecular dynamics invented independently by Aneesur Rahman. [57]
Note G, originally published in Sketch of The Analytical Engine Invented by Charles Babbage. Note G [a] is a computer algorithm written by Ada Lovelace that was designed to calculate Bernoulli numbers using the hypothetical analytical engine.
Argon constitutes 0.934% by volume and 1.288% by mass of Earth's atmosphere. [23] Air is the primary industrial source of purified argon products. Argon is isolated from air by fractionation, most commonly by cryogenic fractional distillation, a process that also produces purified nitrogen, oxygen, neon, krypton and xenon. [24]
This machine invented the principle of the modern computer and was the birthplace of the stored program concept that almost all modern day computers use. [52] These hypothetical machines were designed to formally determine, mathematically, what can be computed, taking into account limitations on computing ability.
