By 1934, the highway was redesignated M-211 to free up the M-95 number. At the time, a highway in the UP was numbered M-45, but US Highway 45 was being extended into Michigan. The Michigan State Highway Department renumbered M-45 in the UP as M-95, and M-95 in the LP as M-211. [2] [3] By the middle of 1960, all of the current M-211 was paved. [11]
M-13 starts at its junction with I-69 near the village of Lennon along the Genesee–Shiawassee county line. The highway follows County Line Road north into the village where it follows Sheridan Avenue through town, [3] [4] including a crossing of the Huron and Eastern Railway [5] North of Lennon, the trunkline intersects M-21 and continues along the county line through fields.
Two other highways were also routed on the East Beltline: M-21 south of Fulton Street and M-37 south of Cascade Road. [9] [10] The US 131, M-21 and M-37 concurrencies only lasted until 1964 when M-21 was moved to I-196 and M-37 was shifted to the new US 131 freeway. [11] [12] US 131 was moved to its freeway north of Grand Rapids in 1969.
