Shelton is a city in and the county seat of Mason County, Washington, United States. [6] Shelton is the westernmost city on Puget Sound. The population was 10,371 at the 2020 census. Shelton has a council–manager form of government and was the last city in Washington to use a mayor–commission form of government.
The City of Shelton's goal is to preserve at least 15% of the land as permanently protected, locally controlled open space in the following three forms: City of Shelton Public Open Space properties, Privately owned farmland protected by the purchase of development rights, and properties held by the non-profit Shelton Land Conservation Trust.

The area that is now Shelton was settled by English colonists in the 17th century as part of Stratford. In 1717 a Congregationalist parish was established, and in 1789 the town of Huntington was incorporated, including what is now neighboring Monroe. The site of the early parish became the center of the new town.
Authorities in New Mexico say they discovered at least 10 human skulls in and around a property near the southeastern border, which could include the remains of a woman who's been missing since 2019.
