602nd Tactical Control Group constituted and activated, 11 February 1966; 602 TCG organized, 1 March 1966. It absorbed the resources of the previous 4460th Tactical Control Group. The 602 TCG was redesignated the 602 Tactical Air Control Group on 15 June 1974, and redesignated and upgraded to wing status on 1 October 1976.

The 602nd Fighter Squadron (Commando) was activated in May 1964 for the Vietnam War, and along with the 1st Air Commando Squadron, was a part of the 34th Tactical Group.
It was constituted as the 85th Tactical Control Flight on 7 February 1977, and activated on 1 March of that year with the 602nd Tactical Air Control Wing at Luke Air Force Base. The flight was inactivated there on 1 July 1983.
