Miró sided with the Republicans. He showed his mural The Reaper at the Spanish pavilion of the Paris International Exhibition of 1937 where Picasso's famous Guernica was also exhibited. The Reaper, a large picture with a height of 5.5 m (18 ft), was lost after the pavilion was dismantled. [4]
Various sculptures and murals can be seen in the gardens. The studio Sert was used by the artist until his death in 1983. In 1959, Miró bought the nearby Finca Son Boter which he also used as an atelier; his graffiti on the walls can still be seen there. The foundation was created in 1981 by Joan Miró and his wife Pilar Juncosa.
Woodhouse was born in Poulton le Sands, later the seaside town of Morecambe in Lancashire developed around this village. His parents also came from the same village. In 2001 one resident of Poulton discovered that Woodhouse had lived in his house in Poulton Road and there is now a wall mural on that house "as part of the Poulton Heritage Mural Trail".

A painting of the "Grim Reaper" originally located on the side of The Thekla in Bristol was removed as it was decaying. It is now on a long-term display at the M Shed. [12]
