The Michigan High School Athletic Association Southeastern Conference (MHSAA SEC) is a high school sports conference composed of schools (all public) in four different counties in the state of Michigan. The SEC is split into two divisions, Red and White, based on enrollment. Currently, there are 14 members of the SEC.
Portage Central won the first football title (7-0) and advanced to the Class A State Final, losing to Birmingham Brother Rice 17-7. Not everyone played all seven games in the league for football (Niles only played five and Battle Creek Lakeview and Portage Northern played six). Everyone played a full league schedule for football in 1978.
The Genesee Eight Athletic Conference began in 1978 [1] with three high schools from the Genesee County B League [3] and five from the Mid-Eastern Eight Conference. [4] Beginning in 1999, the Conference renamed itself to Genesee Area Conference with the addition of Genesee High School to bring up the number of High Schools to ten.
