Chennai Central (officially Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station, formerly Madras Central) (station code: MAS [5]), is an NSG–1 category Indian railway station in Chennai railway division of Southern Railway zone. In 2003, the shopping wing Kauppakuja was opened along with a hotel. The area between the Parliament House and the station contained the VR warehouses, a rail-freight complex.
The building, along with an adjoining small freight depot shortly north of it, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 as the Central Railroad Station. [ 1 ] [ 4 ] The building also became a contributing property of Shreveport Commercial Historic District when its boundaries were increased on April 29, 2015 .
