Berberis harrisoniana [2] (syn: Mahonia harrisoniana) is a rare species of flowering plant in the barberry family, Berberidaceae. It is known by the common names Kofa barberry , Kofa Mountain barberry , Harrison's barberry , and red barberry .
It is a perennial deciduous shrub that grows in open areas, forests, arrow bamboo grove, or cuttings with good light transmission. The plant height is about 1 meter and there are three small thorns on the stem. Leaves 8–10 together, papery narrowly obovate to oblanceolate, leaf about 1.5–2.5 cm in length, and 0.5–1 cm in width.
Stems of Berberis canadensis are hairless, not extensively branched, and range in color from green, purple, red, to brown. Stems also grow in a dimorphic fashion. [ 5 ] The leaves on the shrub are arranged in an alternate pattern with petioles 8 mm ( 5 ⁄ 16 in) in length and covered in a white waxy coating known as glaucose. [ 6 ]
