The airline commenced operations on June 7 2019 when a Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft marked with the Ibom Air name took off from Victor Attah International Airport (IATA: QUO), Uyo, with government officials on board, en route to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Akwa Ibom is the first state in the country to own an airline.
Ibom Air is a state-owned carrier based at Victor Attah International Airport. The carrier operates regional services to destinations in Africa, using CRJ900 aircraft. The airline is wholly owned and operated by Akwa Ibom State Government. Ibom Air launched its maiden flight on 7 June 2019. [9]

In addition, there are airstrips or airfields scattered around the country, built mainly by the Nigerian Air Force and multinational oil companies. The airport was commissioned for construction in 2012 by Bayelsa State ex-Governor Henry Seriake Dickson.The airport had its inaugural flight on 14 February 2019.
