Warren Dunes State Park is a 1,500-acre (610 ha) public recreation area located along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in Berrien County, Michigan. [2] The state park's large sand dunes and lakeshore beaches make it one of the most popular of Michigan's state parks with an average of about one million visitors annually.
The park has almost two miles of sandy beach, which can be reached only on foot by climbing over steep sand dunes. There are many trails for hiking and cross-country skiing, but most are neither posted nor maintained. [6] (Biking on the trails is prohibited.) The trail conditions vary from loose sand to hard packed dirt.

The Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center features interactive exhibits related to the sand dune ecosystem within the park. The center also has live animals and an auditorium and offers many nature programs for the public. [5] There are ten miles (16 km) of hiking trails, including the Dune Climb Stairway, the Walk-a-Mile, and Homestead trails. [5]
