Saint John's Catholic Prep (formerly known as St. John's Literary Institution) is a private, Roman Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school in Buckeystown, Maryland, located just southwest of Frederick City. At the time of its founding in 1829, it was located on Second Street in eastern downtown Frederick.
Pioneer Catholic settlers in the Beloit area had a deep concern for the education of their children. In the fall of 1879 with 15 students, St. John's Catholic School was founded in a small one room building. By 1900, enrollment reached 140 students thus creating a need for a larger more structured school building.
St. John's College High School (SJC, SJCHS, or St. John's) [4] is a Catholic high school in Washington, D.C. Established in 1851, it is the third oldest Christian Brothers school in the United States, and was one of the oldest Army JROTC schools until the program was abolished in 2019 in pursuit of a private "leadership academy" program with no relationship to the United States Armed Forces.
St John's Catholic School opened in 1964 and currently has 1372 pupils enrolled between the ages of 11 and 18 (of which 305 are aged 16–18). School facilities include a swimming pool, sports hall, gymnasium and an Astroturf football pitch, all of which are used by the school and outside community groups.
St. John's Preparatory School was established in 1870 by the Vincentian Fathers as the Preparatory Department of St. John's College (later University). [1] In 1955 the College moved out to its new campus and the prep school further expanded, taking over its former buildings.
