Phenolphthalein is often used as an indicator in acid–base titrations. For this application, it turns colorless in acidic solutions and pink in basic solutions. It belongs to the class of dyes known as phthalein dyes. Phenolphthalein is slightly soluble in water and usually is dissolved in alcohols in experiments.
Indicator: A substance that changes color in response to a chemical change. An acid–base indicator (e.g., phenolphthalein) changes color depending on the pH. Redox indicators are also used. A drop of indicator solution is added to the titration at the beginning; the endpoint has been reached when the color changes.
Tashiro's indicator is a pH indicator (pH value: 4.4–6.2), mixed indicator composed of a solution of methylene blue (0.1%) and methyl red ... Tashiro's indicator ...
Bromothymol blue is synthesized by addition of elemental bromine to thymol blue in a solution in glacial acetic acid. [6] To prepare a solution for use as pH indicator, dissolve 0.10 g in 8.0 cm 3 N/50 (a.k.a. 0.02 Normal) NaOH and dilute with water to 250 cm 3.
Ehrlich's reagent or Ehrlich reagent is a reagent containing p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (DMAB) and thus can act as an indicator to presumptively identify indoles and urobilinogen. Several Ehrlich tests use the reagent in a medical test; some are drug tests and others contribute to diagnosis of various diseases or adverse drug reactions.
This elementary reaction consumes exactly one molar equivalent of water vs. iodine. Iodine is added to the solution until it is present in excess, marking the end point of the titration, which can be detected by potentiometry. The reaction is run in an alcohol solution containing a base, which consumes the sulfur trioxide and hydroiodic acid ...
The Summary. The bird flu outbreak took several concerning turns this year, with the number of human cases up to at least 65. Experts outlined several indicators that the virus’ spread is going ...
A roll of universal indicator pape Colors of universal indicator. A universal indicator is a pH indicator made of a solution of several compounds that exhibit various smooth colour changes over a wide range pH values to indicate the acidity or alkalinity of solutions. A universal indicator can be in paper form or present in a form of a solution ...
