Bertha Matilda Sprinks Goudy (September 6, 1869 – October 21, 1935) was an American typographer, fine press printer, and co-proprietor with Frederic Goudy of the Village Press from 1903 until her death in 1935.
The Kelmscott Press, founded by William Morris and Emery Walker, published 53 books in 66 volumes [1] between 1891 and 1898. Each book was designed and ornamented by Morris and printed by hand in limited editions of around 300.
Their partnership was dissolved in 1908, [1] but Cobden-Sanderson continued printing. Cobden-Sanderson had commissioned the press's own typeface – Doves Type – that was drawn under the supervision of Walker. Walker-Turner was founded by Ernest T. Walker and William Brewer Turner sometime around 1927 and 1929. The company was first located in Jersey City, New Jersey until 1931 when they relocated to Plainfield, New Jersey. The first machines Walker-Turner made were small, inexpensive, light-weight machines designed for home workshops of the time.
