Harvey J. Graff (born 1949) is a comparative social historian as well as a professor of English and History at Ohio State University. [2] His writings on the history of literacy have been published in eight countries and he is acknowledged internationally for his contributions to urban studies and urban history.
The son graduated from Ohio State University in 1888, from Harvard in 1889 and received his A.M. at Harvard in 1890. He studied in Germany from 1890 to 1891. In 1898, he became associate professor of European history at the Ohio State University, becoming a full professor and chairman of the history department in 1902.
