I am in the market to buy a new pair of binoculars in the $500-$600 range. I have my eyes set on the either the Vortex Viper HD or Leupold Mojave HD, both 10x42. I was hoping to hear your guys feedback on both of these binoculars. Specifically durability, waterproof, foggy lenses, lenses quality, or any other information that is good to know.
I feel the same way about the vipers. Picked them up last year for Colorado elk hunt and couldn’t be happier. Watched ebay daily for months and got a brand new pair for 400 shipped. Can’t say anything about the Leupold’s since I haven’t used them.
Nice thing about the monarch was the bigger field of view than the viper but overall structure I liked the viper better and my past vortex have always done me good and I love the warranty. Nikon on the other hand I have mixed feelings for but the Monarch 7 seems to be a nice pair of binoculars and warranty is ok and field of view is great.
I can shoot the VX1 just as well as the 5. Yes the 5 is much better in the clarity, light gathering and quality of glass. I personally think the VX3 is probably the most practical price and quality 90% of us hunters need for the price. My .02. I don't own any Vortex rifle scopes but do have binoculars (diamondbacks).
I prefer the reticles in the Leupold scopes. I find my Vortex reticle to be too thin/faint in certain lighting conditions, while the Leupold is about perfect. 2. In shooting situations where your target is in the same direction as the sun in early morning or late evening, the Leupold beats the Vortex hands down in clarity.
