Willow Beach is the location of the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery which is run by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of the Interior. The hatchery produces Rainbow Trout for sport fishing. Rainbow Trout are stocked year round. The hatchery also raises Razorback Suckers and Bonytail Chub, both endangered species.
This is a list of notable lakes and reservoirs located in the U.S. state of Arizona. Many of the lakes listed here contain game fish and are managed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Some may dry out or freeze out fish, and require seasonal restocking. Most lakes will not allow large motorboats.
In spite of the lake's remoteness and lack of access, it is a premier fishing location due to its stock of rainbow and brown trout. [3] The Arizona Game and Fish Department's desired species assemblage in Chevelon Canyon Lake is rainbow trout, brown trout, and Little Colorado sucker. [1]
Built in 1979, the lake quickly became popular with anglers, to the dismay of downstream water users. Because of the dispute, the Arizona Game and Fish discontinued stocking for many years. In 1999, the Arizona Game and Fish has acquired a major share of the water rights, setting the stage for a new and vigorous trout fishery.
Ashurst Lake is also considered a favorable fishing location for Northern Pike. The facilities are maintained under the authority of the Coconino National Forest.
