Cabela's Big Game Hunter is the first video game in the Big Game Hunter series. It portrays a variety of hunting scenarios and has a variety of weapons, characters, animals, and locations. The game was published by HeadGames Publishing , in conjunction with hunting supply company Cabela's .
By correctly shooting the animal with a permit, a screen detailing the vital signs of it is shown, and the player will receive some money. [1] The game uses a 360 degree circle movement where scents and calls can be used for attracting animals. [2] There are four locations in the game: Colorado, Canada, New Mexico, and an African safari. [3]

Each location houses different animals that the player can hunt. The player has the ability to change the season and area of the hunt, and, in Career Hunt Mode, they can choose between different, uniquely-perked characters. The Xbox version of the game has online leaderboard support via Xbox Live which was available to players until April 15, 2010.
