Frances Xavier Cabrini MSC (Italian: Francesca Cabrini (birth name), July 15, 1850 – December 22, 1917), also known as Mother Cabrini, was a prominent Italian-American religious sister in the Roman Catholic Church. She is the first American to be recognized as a saint.
After his 1997 ordination, the diocese assigned Toups as parochial vicar at St. Francis Cabrini Parish in Spring Hill, Florida and as a member of the presbyteral council from 1997 to 2001. He also served as a board member of the National Federation of Priests’ Councils.
Cabrini took religious vows in 1877 and added Xavier (Saverio) to her name to honor the Jesuit saint, Francis Xavier, the patron saint of missionary service. When the orphanage closed in 1880, Cabrini and seven other women who had taken religious vows with her founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (M.S.C.). [1]
