The Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Farmstead Historic District is a farm in Guthrie County, Iowa, United States, near the city of Coon Rapids. It is significant as the home of farmer and hybrid corn populizer Roswell Garst. During the 1930s and 1940s, Garst played an active role in the conversion of old-style family farms to modern agribusiness.
Roswell Garst's parents were Edward Garst and Bertha Goodwin. He married Elizabeth Henak on January 31, 1921. Garst was founder of Garst & Thomas Co., which became one of the world's largest producers of hybrid seed corn. In the 1930s, Garst traveled around the Midwest convincing farmers of the benefits of hybrid seed corn.
The main office of Whiterock Conservancy is the historic Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Farmstead, which is also an active bed and breakfast and part of the Whiterock Resort. In 1997, the farm house and surrounding lands became an agritourism destination [4] which later became the Whiterock Resort in 2007. [5]

Coon Rapids is a city in Carroll and Guthrie counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 1,300 at the 2020 census , which is a decrease of 5 from the 2000 census . [ 4 ] The small portion of Coon Rapids that lies in Guthrie County is part of the Des Moines – West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area .
