Godzilla Minus One (Japanese: ゴジラ-1.0 ( マイナスワン ), Hepburn: Gojira Mainasu Wan) is a 2023 Japanese epic [i] kaiju film written, directed, and with visual effects by Takashi Yamazaki. It is the 37th film in the Godzilla franchise, Toho's 33rd Godzilla film, and the fifth installment of the Reiwa era.
The film, entitled Godzilla Minus One, was released in Japanese theaters in November 2023, and became one of the most acclaimed films in the franchise. For their work on the film, Yamazaki and his team became the first Japanese film to ever to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects , ultimately winning.
