William G. Morgan. William George Morgan (January 23, 1870 – December 27, 1942) was the inventor of volleyball, originally called "Mintonette", a name derived from the game of badminton which he later agreed to change to better reflect the nature of the sport. Hybrid : A term describing serves in which the ball is hit with a spin not reflected in the toss, usually jumping. Wallyball. A game of wallyball. Wallyball (known in some places as rebound volleyball) is a fast-paced sport that is similar to volleyball played in a racquetball court, where it is legal to hit the ball off of the walls. The word "wallyball" is a portmanteau of the words "wall" and "volleyball".
If the ball touches the net between two contacts by the same team, those two contacts only count as one of the three allowed before the ball must be sent over the net. The same player may legally make both contacts. It is permitted to briefly carry the ball during a spiking motion. Players may not penetrate the plane of the net while blocking.
