Abbeville is a city in, and the parish seat of, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The population was 12,257 at the 2010 census . [ 6 ] At the 2020 population estimates program , the population of the city was 11,927. [ 7 ]
On March 22, 1907, at 7 p.m. the church of Saint Mary Magdalen, Abbeville, was completely destroyed by fire, as was the presbytery attached to the church. The fire destroyed the baptism register covering 1901–1904. During that period, there were 1541 baptisms.
