In commercial systems, cross-band repeaters are sometimes used in vehicular repeaters. For example, a 150 MHz hand held may communicate to a vehicle-mounted low-power transceiver. The low-power radio repeats transmissions from the portable over the vehicle's high power mobile radio, which has a much longer range.
The portable audio products sold by Bose Corporation have been marketed as portable smart speaker and SoundLink. These wireless speaker systems are battery powered and play audio over a wireless connection from a separate source device (such as a computer or smartphone). Most Soundlink models use Bluetooth to communicate with the source device.
The frequency range used by most early radio systems, 25–50 MHz (vhf "low band") is particularly susceptible to the problem of electrical noise. This plus the need for more channels led to the eventual expansion of two-way radio communications into the VHF "high band" (150–174 MHz) and UHF (450–470 MHz).
Naval air traffic controller communicates with aircraft over a two-way radio headset A variety of portable handheld two-way radios for private use. A two-way radio is a radio transceiver (a radio that can both transmit and receive radio waves), which is used for bidirectional person-to-person voice communication with other users with similar radios, [1] in contrast to a broadcast receiver ...
Typical walkie-talkies resemble a telephone handset, with a speaker built into one end and a microphone in the other (in some devices the speaker also is used as the microphone) and an antenna mounted on the top of the unit. They are held up to the face to talk. A walkie-talkie is a half-duplex communication device. Multiple walkie-talkies use ...
This article provides a summary description of many of the different antenna types used for radio receiving or transmitting systems. This summary article collects groups of antennas based on their electrical operation. The classification and sub-classifications below follow those typically used in most antenna engineering textbooks. [1] [2] [3 ...
Their compact size makes helicals useful as antennas for mobile and portable communications equipment on the HF, VHF, and UHF bands. [citation needed] A common form of normal-mode helical antenna is the "rubber ducky antenna" used in portable radios. A handheld two-way radio, with the rubber sleeve removed from the antenna.
Some head units have built-in stereo amplifiers. Other car audio systems use a separate stand-alone amplifier. Every amplifier has a rated power level sometimes noted on the head unit with the built-in amplifier, or on the label of a stand-alone unit. Coaxial speakers: These are the most common type of car speakers and are often factory-installed.
