The book celebration has long been a signature event for the county's library system. During its history, the county's library system has welcomed more than 300 authors from around the country, and until 2014, the event was solely run by the county's library system. The Clark Maxwell, Jr. Library and Student Services Building opened in January 2000. The joint-use agreement with the Sumter County Library System remained in place until August 2014, when the county terminated the agreement. Planning for the South Lake campus began as far back as 1993, but it wasn't until 1999 that the plan became a reality. [13]
