The Landolt C, also known as a Landolt ring, Landolt broken ring, or Japanese vision test, is an optotype: a standardized symbol used for testing vision. It was developed by the Swiss-born ophthalmologist Edmund Landolt. The Landolt C consists of a ring that has a gap, thus looking similar to the letter C.

Weiss ring: a large, ring shaped floater that is sometimes seen if the vitreous body releases from the back of the eye. As part of the normal human aging process the liquefied vitreous body loses support and contracts. This leads to posterior vitreous detachment in which the vitreous membrane is released from the sensory retina. [9]
Peripheral (posterior) vitreous detachment occurs when the gel around the eye separates from the retina. This can naturally occur with age. However, if it occurs too rapidly, it can cause photopsia which manifests in flashes and floaters in the vision. Typically, the flashes and floaters go away in a few months.
