"The Scouring of the Shire" is the penultimate chapter of J. R. R. Tolkien's writings and one of the protagonists in The Lord of the Rings.Frodo is a hobbit of the Shire who inherits the One Ring from his cousin Bilbo Baggins, described familiarly as "uncle", and undertakes the quest to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom in Mordor.
In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins and his companions travel through familiar woods in The Shire, and are pursued by Black Riders; to evade them, the party decides to enter the Old Forest. It was described as the oldest known book in the Shire, and was most likely kept at the Great Smials of Tuckborough.
