It launched on August 30, 1983, and landed on September 5, 1983, conducting the first night launch and night landing of the Space Shuttle program. The school name was changed to Guion Bluford Elementary School in recognition of astronaut Guion Bluford, who attended Hanna School. [citation needed] The older portion of the school was demolished in 2010 and a replacement attached to its 1974 addition. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. [1]
