US Post Office-Norwich is a historic post office building located at Norwich in Chenango County, New York, United States. It was built in 1932–1933, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State built by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department.
North Broad Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Norwich in Chenango County, New York. The district has 41 contributing buildings. It includes an area of detached residences in a variety of popular 19th- and 20th-century architectural styles. [2] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. [1]
Notable buildings include the Chenango County Courthouse (1837), Sheriff's office (1905), County Clerk's office (1852), First Baptist Church (1845), Maurice S. Ireland Building (1880), Old Norwich Hotel, City Hall (1903), and the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad Depot (1902). Also in the district is the separately listed US Post Office-Norwich. [2]
The first courthouse was a log building completed in 1851 on Broad Street. [5] In its early years, Nevada City was regularly swept by fires, including March 1851, September 1852, November 1854, and February 1855; a particularly disastrous fire, fanned by winds on July 19, 1856, destroyed most of the city, including the first county courthouse.
