In 1910, the Glasgow School of Navigation was founded. [3] The school would be later renamed the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. [3] The marine facility at the college was primarily housed in a purpose-built boat shed built in 1968 beside the Clyde. [2] In 1969, the facility was officially opened by Lord Mountbatten. [4]
In 2001 the library received a $6.5 million gift from Professor Ruth Gottesman, to establish 'the Library of the Future'. [4] A dedication ceremony was held on November 4, 2004. [ 5 ] Previously the library of Teachers College was known as Milbank Memorial Library, named after Thomas Milbank and dedicated as such in 1982. [ 6 ]
