These cookies are far more commonly called "snowballs" than "Russian tea cakes." For awhile it was massively popular to refer to them as "Mexican wedding cookies" (or "Mexican wedding cakes"), but prior to this (and still in many families, I would wager, as well as on some websites) they were generally called "snowballs."
