The Motto of the Day (MOTD) is a project dedicated to creating and displaying a daily unofficial Wikipedia motto included on various user pages. It is an effort to laugh a bit at ourselves, celebrate our achievements, and foster a sense of community. Mottos can be humorous or serious, but must reflect the community or purpose of Wikipedia.

Note: Submissions for MOTD have been inactive for 2016 so far (5/18), but there has been some interest expressed in restarting or otherwise adapting the practice.
The Motto of the Day is open to all editors to nominate and review mottos, but there is a set of rules that restrict the kind of motto that will be approved. This article discusses the entire process of nomination. Bear in mind that MOTD is not a bureaucracy, and if a rule stops you from contributing to the Motto of the day, then ignore it!
