Maunganui Bluff is a prominent coastal bluff located on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island, in the Northland region. [1] Known locally as The Bluff , [ 2 ] [ 3 ] it is set in a 495 hectares (1,220 acres) scenic reserve and rises 459 metres (1,506 ft) above sea level.
The Ngāti Whātua force ambushed the Ngāpuhi, and won the battle, which occurred at Moremonui Gully where it enters Ripirō Beach, 19 kilometres (12 miles) south of Maunganui Bluff on the west coast of Northland. It could reasonably be called the first battle of the Musket Wars among Māori, which took place over the next few decades.
