Take the Catalina Club Mod, for example: it's just one up from Gretsch's entry-level Blackhawk. But looking at this latest Club addition, with its massive bass drum, striking finish and trendy, off-set lugs, you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd missed a few pages and landed in the more professional end of the Gretsch catalogue.
This is a Gretsch Catalina Club Mod 4 piece kit. Shell sizes are 12 x 8-inch suspended tom, 16 x 14-inch floor tom, 22 x 20-inch bass drum, matching 14 x 6.5-inch snare drum and a mounting post for the suspended tom.
From the round “gas cap” bass drum mount plate and Mini GTS mounting system to the reduced-mass tom mount brackets and Gretsch T-Wing screws and bolts, Catalina Club has an incredible drummer-friendly feel.

I have a 2017 Gretsch Catalina Club kit in a 20/16/14/12 and 14 snare configuration. The kit looks great, is incredibly easy to tune, and it stays in tune much longer than any other kit I own. (I own, a C&C maple, a C&C acrylic, a couple of late 60s era Ludwig kits, and a Gretsch Brooklyn kit.)
Nothing screams “jazz” like an 18″ bass drum. For some bebop jazz drummers, it’s all they ever play. Gretsch has created a new line of kits that feature small bass drums, matching wood snares, covered finishes, and entry level pricing. They call it the Catalina Club series.
Misremembered History: The Grestch Catalina Club Mod (of this configuration) was released around 2007 and were discontinued shortly after. Since then the Catalina line has expanded quite a bit and now features the Club Rock, Club Jazz, Club Street, and Club Birch series, to name a few.
