Got wrong that one with Lincoln (not american, so I got wrong decades; seccesion war was in 60s not 80s). Also, I looked into others publications from original 1989 edition and there was no mention about Earth history being different from ours before Edison's flight to Mars. In Core rule book, France is even mentioned as "III Republic".
