Harvey was born on 6 August 1935 in London, England, [1] [3] and lived through the Blitz during the Second World War. [4] He was born into a musical family: his father played the fiddle while his mother was a piano player. Harvey began playing piano and the organ at the age of six and when he was eight he began playing at his local Catholic church.
