Hutchinson County, South Dakota. / 43.34°N 97.75°W / 43.34; -97.75. Hutchinson County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,427. [1] Its county seat is Olivet. [2] The county was created in 1862 and organized in 1871; it was named for John Hutchinson, first territorial secretary.
The U.S. state of South Dakota first required its residents to register their motor vehicles in 1905. Registrants provided their own license plates for display until 1913, when the state began to issue plates. [ 2] As of 2024, plates are issued by the South Dakota Department of Revenue through its Motor Vehicle Division.
