It is the oldest and longest-standing law enforcement agency in the county of Delaware. On February 13, 1827, Peter Nolan became the first sheriff of Delaware County, Indiana. Early sheriffs patrolled on horseback, brought criminals to justice, and held criminals at the sheriffs house.

About Sheriff Tony Skinner: Before being elected as Delaware County’s 45th Sheriff, Tony earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Ball State University. Tony is married to April and they have two children, LT and Lauren.
The mission of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division is to provide the highest level of safety, security, and quality of life for those incarcerated in Delaware County. The Jail holds with the upmost regard the protection of the staff, the inmates and the community it serves.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office offers community support and services in the form of educational programs such as “McGruff the Crime Dog” which teaches children to help “take a bite out of crime”.
