Potato farls are one large round divided into four quadrants or square slices (usually around 0.5–1 cm in thickness) of soft potato bread, lightly powdered with flour and are common in Ulster, especially Northern Ireland.
The potato bread is under the eggs, with the soda bread (soda farl) at the bottom. In Ulster, the northern province of Ireland, the "Ulster fry" variant is popular throughout most of the province, where it is eaten not only at breakfast time but throughout the day. Typically it will include soda bread farls and potato bread. [23]
Northern Irish potato bread. Potato cakes, made from mashed potatoes and various other ingredients, such as flour, eggs, or baking soda, and cooked, are popular throughout the UK and Ireland and are commonly eaten at breakfast.
In Ulster, the term generally refers to soda bread (soda farls) and, less commonly, potato bread (potato farls), which are also ingredients of an Ulster fry. It is made as farls (that is to say, flat rounds about 3/4 inch thick which are then cut into quarters). Modern commercially mass-produced potato farls, however, are often rectangular in form.

They are sometimes eaten with butter and homemade jam, or with savoury food such as smoked salmon, fresh fried eel, or thick dry-cured bacon. Soda bread is a soft, thick and fluffy bread.
