Assiniboia Downs is a Canadian horse race track on 150 ha (360 acres) [1] of land located in the Winnipeg suburb of St. James-Assiniboia. It is operated by the Manitoba Jockey Club and is the site of the annual Manitoba Derby .
The Manitoba Derby is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race run annually at the beginning of August at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Established in 2023, it is the first jewel of the Western Canadian Triple Crown. A Listed Race for three-year-olds, it is contested on dirt over a distance of 1 + 1 ⁄ 8 miles (9 furlongs).

Todd Kabel (December 7, 1965 – March 27, 2021) was a Canadian Thoroughbred horse racing jockey.A native of McCreary, Manitoba, he began his career as a jockey at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and in 1987 started competing at tracks in Ontario, moving to Toronto permanently in 1991.
