Monkey D. Luffy (/ ˈ l uː f i / LOO-fee) (Japanese: モンキー・D・ルフィ, Hepburn: Monkī Dī Rufi, [ɾɯꜜɸiː]), also known as "Straw Hat" Luffy, [n 2] is a fictional character and the protagonist in the Japanese manga series One Piece created by Eiichiro Oda.
Luffy sees Law and says thanks for saving him two years ago. Law says that they aren't friends and Luffy agrees since they were both after One Piece. Law remembers the past between him and Luffy when Law saved him at Marineford. Luffy sees Smoker on the ground. Tashigi cries over Smoker's body and attempts to kill Law but he switches their hearts.
Luffy attempt to fight back using Armament Haki, but his punches go right though him, much to Luffy's confusion, as Trebol question Luffy's assumption of his Devil Fruit being a Logia. Law tells Luffy that fighting Trebol is futile, while revealing Trebol's slime is in fact mucus, before he begins to insult Trebol and the other executives.
Luffy charges forward to save Ace, fighting off the marines in the way. Admiral Kizaru attacks him with a beam of light, but Ivankov saves him, only to be attacked by Kuma, whom he claims to know. Luffy encounters Jango and Fullbody; Jango accidentally hypnotizes himself and Fullbody, and Luffy barely escapes from Hina using Gear Second.
Luffy, Chopper, Jinbe, and Bonney evade the Pacifista after Bonney uses her Devil Fruit powers to confuse it. Jinbe reveals Kuma's backstory as a deposed king, later becoming a pirate and eventually a cyborg. Meanwhile, Lilith leads the other Straw Hats to Egghead's Labophase. There, they encounter a Seraphim resembling Jinbe.
Katakuri makes a shrine where he can eat in private. Luffy breaks out of the mochi he was buried under and shattered the shrine, exposing Katakuri's face. Katakuri then executes the chefs before resuming his attempts to kill Luffy. After managing to land a hit on Katakuri, Luffy says that he figures out how to beat him and activates Gear Fourth.

Luffy fights Crocodile; despite many hits, his opponent is unfazed. Crocodile, using his devil-fruit ability to dissolve and reintegrate whatever part of his body Luffy attacks, toys with him until he impales him through the chest with his prosthetic hook and buries him in the sand. The rest of the Straw Hats hurry to intercept the rebel army.
