Divya Bharti [a] (Hindi pronunciation: [dɪʋjaː bʱaːrtiː]; 25 February 1974 – 5 April 1993) was an Indian actress known for her work in Hindi and Telugu cinema. She was among the highest-paid Indian actresses of her time and received a Filmfare Award and a Nandi Award for her performances.
Divya Bharti, the leading actress of the film, died shortly after filming was completed; the film was released three months after her death, posthumously. Karisma Kapoor had initially been selected for the main lead role, after producer Mansoor Ahmed Siddique expressed his desire on casting her.

Originally, Divya Bharti was cast as the female lead but she died very early in the production. Raveena Tandon was cast as her replacement, as was the case with the movie Dilwale, which was released earlier the same year. The film was reported to be inspired by the 1987 film Death Wish 4: The Crackdown.
