The Arizona Biltmore is a historic resort located in Phoenix near 24th Street and Camelback Road. Designed by Albert Chase McArthur, it opened on February 23, 1929, as part of the Biltmore Hotel chain. Actors Clark Gable and Carole Lombard often stayed there and the Tequila sunrise cocktail was invented there. It is part of LXR Hotels & Resorts.
The resort boasts such amenities as three golf courses, nine tennis courts, and three swimming pools. During the Great Recession, in 2008, the property had gone bankrupt. Local businessman Jerry Colangelo, purchased the property. Colangelo’s company, JDM Partners, invested heavily in the resort making historically sensitive renovations. [4]
The Phoenix Towers were built in 1957 and are located at 2201 N. Central Avenue. Phoenix Towers was built as a resident-owned cooperative community, Phoenix Towers is now considered an outstanding example of mid-century architecture and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on January 2, 2008, reference #07001334.
Royal Palms Resort and Spa is a historic hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. It was built in Spanish Colonial style in 1929 as a retirement home for New York businessman Delos Cooke, who died unexpectedly in 1931, [ 1 ] and his wife. [ 2 ]
March 2001 – Harrah's Ak-Chin opens its resort hotel with 144 guest rooms and four guest suites. February 2003 – The casino begins to offer tables games such as poker and blackjack. June 2003 – Ak-Chin bingo operations move from the casino to the newly built Bingo Hall. November 2009 – The 148 rooms on the property are remodeled.
The resort still comprises its swimming pool, administrative building and guest house along with the springs, which produce 180,000 gallons of hot water per day. [2] The resort became a stop on the short-line Arizona and California Railroad in the 1990s. The property was sold in March 2014 for $1.95 million. [3]
